Released on Friday, November 28, 2008, this morning I enjoyed an audio segment on NPR about how to think about new art and music. I am editing my footage that I shot two nights ago.

There’s a third tape I had in my hand when I walked in the door that I need to locate. I had nervously anticipated an opportunity to meet some interesting figures from the northwest art scene who were also in attendance, but being the shy nerd I am, I only talked to someone if was about photography and video or my cable access show all evening long.

Yes, Seattle’s underground is still here, there is Butoh here and in Portland. I it was a good night of art.

Syphilis Sauna was really good, as was the French singer Leticia aka Tiny Concept. It was great to know that those experiences and more are still to be had. Its too bad that building is going to be bulldozed and replaced with condos, much like the rest of the Belltown neighborhood that surrounds it.

It was definitely one of the more unpolished venues I’d gone in my adventures as Your Humble Host. Outside the building there was a Notice of Land Use sign and the sign outside for the art space was just a logo.

When my photographer Tim and I walked up there were some folk waiting outside. We saw that they were performing, and as we walked up they were guided to another part of the building. I told Tim told just follow them and we were in. Tim scouted for an outlet while I checked out the lighting situation. I ordered a drink but got the first one free and gave the customary generous tip.

The bartender told me they have parties there, of the obscure persuasion. I tried to keep my cool. Ok, now I’m learning some new things!

Of course some SEA SHOW artists were performing, and before too long  Death Posture came out and gave an amazing performance.

I ran out of tape after three hours and had to go but was happy about my 4GB chip that I didn’t have to worry about getting full on my audiorecorder.

It was pretty dark in there but the stage lights were on and the footage came out great. Now where is that third tape?

In the meantime, I have the audio files from my Zoom H4 downloaded and captured the last 5 minutes or so of the performance on one tape. It was a great time, I’ll blog more about this later, when the video is ready.
